How are The Joy Bears™
created
?
[back]
Elizabeth's original artwork is sent by plane to China,
where colours are matched to block colours.
This is sent by email to the directors. Elizabeth either amends or
agrees with the predicted colours and the factory receives permission
to create a mould.
The manufacture is booked for The Joy Bear™ to arrive as
a scheduled release on a set date.
The Joy Bear™ artwork appears on the coming soon page, customers have a chance
to
pre-order. Upon manufacture, the design is stamped out of 30mm square
pieces of
steel. 10,000 pins are stamped out and then the factory, upon our
instructions, breaks our mold so it can no longer be used. These
stamped out bears, then have a pin, heat
welded to the back. The pin is held in a clamp and each badge travels
down a conveyor.
At this stage, all pins are just plain silver or gold colour.
Each pin passes slowly through a team of enamellers, each of whom hand
paints a tiny part of
the pin. In this way, each tiny enamelled section (for example flowers)
is perfect.
Pins pass through a dryer before reaching a "Check Manager".
The Check Manager accepts or discards every pin (Only about 10 or 12
out of 10,000 are
discarded). Pins are packed carefully and sent by plane to the uk,
where they are held until the release date. Immediately upon the
release date, club members and customer pre-orders are posted. The pin
artwork is removed from the coming soon
page.
The pin is scanned and uploaded to the to the collection
page for general sale.
When all 10,000 pins are sold, The Joy Bear™ is retired, is no longer available and
will be displayed
on the retired page.
